The Library re-opened for walk-in service on Monday, August 17, 2020.

The Library Board adopted the following Health Emergency Addendum which will govern patron conduct:

For the safety of our patrons and staff and in compliance with New Jersey guidelines, the following policies take effect immediately. These policies are designed to mitigate germ spread, encourage social distancing and allow the Library to satisfy occupancy limits. Non-compliance will result in removal from the building.

  1. Face coverings that completely cover the mouth and nose are required while in the Library and while on Library property. Masks, bandanas, or scarves are acceptable. Hands, shirts, or other clothing are not acceptable face coverings. Children under 2 years of age are exempt. Staff will offer doorside pickup and online access for patrons who are unwilling or unable to comply with the code.
  2. Maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet from other patrons and staff at all times.
  3. No more than 6 visitors are allowed in the Children’s Room at one time. No more than 25 visitors are permitted in the Library at one time. *
  4. Family groups are encouraged to remain together when in the building. Children under the age of 13 must be attended by a responsible caregiver (age 18 or over) at all times while in the Library.
  5. No patron may remain inside the Library for more than one hour.
  6. Public computer sessions are limited to 30 minutes. Computer use is available on a first come first serve basis. Users shall be provided a disinfecting wipe to treat keyboards and mice prior to use.
  7. All borrowed items shall be returned to the library book return located on the patio.
  8. Books that are substantially handled/browsed but not ultimately checked out by patrons shall be returned to designated bins for staff to sanitize.
  9. All meeting rooms are closed. All study rooms are closed.
  10. Tutoring is not permitted.
  11. No food or drink.
  12. Outside furniture may not be brought into the Library.
  13. The first hour of public access on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is reserved for seniors aged 60 or over, or others at high risk for COVID-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control.

All other patron rules remain in effect.

The Hillsdale Free Public Library does not, and cannot, warrant or guarantee that no Staff or Guest will contract COVID-19 while at the Hillsdale Free Public Library. Instead, as with any responsible public facility, Hillsdale Free Public Library states that it will abide by recommended practices and guidelines to help prevent potential communication and spread of the virus. If you have any concerns about your heightened risk or the adequacy of our precautions, please contact us and/or avoid coming to the Library until your concerns can be addressed.
