The Hillsdale Film Festival – Foreign Film Series will kick off its Fall Season with the Hungarian film Gloomy Sunday. In view of the ongoing pandemic, patrons are invited to prescreen the film on Kanopy, the streaming service available through the Hillsdale Library’s website or to request the DVD be delivered to the Hillsdale Library through the BCCLS online request system. On Monday, November 16 at 7 PM, the Library will hold a Zoom video call so that viewers of the film can get together to discuss their impressions of the film.
Gloomy Sunday
Named after a hit song from the 1930’s with a notorious reputation, recorded most famously by Billie Holiday, this 2001 film features a love story with a twist as it flashes back in time to the lush and romantic city of Budapest and follows the story of two men in love with the same woman and the song that one of them writes for her that drives some to take their own lives. Starring the mesmerizing Erika Marozsan. Not Rated. (Running Time 114 minutes)
