On Exhibit in February – Colombianidad

For our family, no distance is able to separate us from Colombia. It is no coincidence that much of what we choose to create reflects this reality. Colombiandad aims to highlight how our heritage expresses itself through different media. Throughout the exhibit, you will see pieces made by a few of the branches of our family tree. Artwork from my mother, my sister, and my uncle, as well as my own, is on display. We dedicate this exhibit to those who left their homes to build new ones, and all of those who never got a chance to. — Kamila Sanchez

Kamila Sanchez | Artist and curator of this exhibit, Sanchez is proud to present in Colombiandad some of the people she cares for most, through the wonders they create. Inspired by her travels to museums around the world, she hopes this exhibition will create an accessible space for those to explore the artists she has been surrounded by all her life.

Viviana Lozano | Often inspired by the nature that surrounds her, it is no surprise that many of my mother’s pieces are created using watercolor. She paints the Colombia she knew–its warmth, its nature–all while highlighting the memories that sprinkled her childhood there.

Juan Fernando Sanchez | A Medellin-based artist, Sanchez uses found objects, such as pens, plastics, and thread, blended with fine-arts techniques. His mixed-media work serves as part expressive poetry and part archaeological record of the city he loves.

Keish Lozano | A queer, mixed-media artist living and working in Chicago, their work explores memory, disability, and placement.
