This September we’ll be discussing Caleb’s Crossing by Pulitzer Prize- winning author Geraldine Brooks. Based on a true occurrence, Caleb Cheeshahteaumuck became one of the first Native American students at 17th century Harvard University. The story is narrated by Bethia, daughter of the preacher, Caleb’s first teacher. We journey with her to experience the difficulties of life in the early Massachusetts colony, including wars, epidemics and indentured servitude. An engrossing and heartfelt historical novel portraying the challenges of race and sex faced by Bethia and Caleb. Come by and pick up a copy at the front desk.
