Michael Ondaatje’s, author of the English Patient, has created a wonderful work of fiction in The Cat’s Table. Eleven year old Michael’s world is upended when he leaves his home of Ceylon and sails alone to England. Bonding with two other boys on the ship, they are seated at the “Cat’s Table” in the dining room. This table holds the ‘nobodies’ of the ship – the lone children, a pianist, tailor and botanist. The three boys explore the ship and its’ people throughout the voyage changing themselves now and forever. Pick up a copy at the front desk and join us on Thursday, February 21st at 7PM to discuss this lyrical book.
