Visit the share space to see over 40 beautiful color photographs. This exhibit runs through December 31, 2013.

Mel, a long-time Hillsdale resident, photographed the orchids on display here at the New York Botanical Gardens Orchid Show in April 2013. This show is the largest exhibition of its kind in the world and provides a photographer with an elaborate and kaleidoscopic array of colors, shapes, sizes and textures. If you had been there, you would know what he was talking about. If not, these pictures will give you a glimpse of what you missed.

In addition to the orchids, there are photographs of irises taken at the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair. These gardens contain over 14,000 irises of approximately 3,000 varieties producing over 100,000 blooms. The window of opportunity to view and photograph  these beautiful flowers is very short. The spring bloom lasts only from mid May through the first week of June. These photographs were taken during that period. This year the cicada insects made their appearance and are seen in some of the photographs. If you missed them, they won’t be present again until 2030, because they only come above ground once every 17 years.

Some of the other pictures are of spring blossoms, including a picture of the trees lining the causeway over the Woodcliff Lake resevoir in Hillsdale. Mel has another exhibit currently on display at the Bergen YJCC on Pascack Road in Washington Township. These are pictures of London and Paris.

Mel is a member of the Hobbyists Camera Club in Ridgewood whose members exhibit their photographs annually at the Stable in Ridgewood every April.
