This historical fiction novel is about a girl, Liesel, going to live with a foster family in Germany during World War 2. develops a love for words when her foster father teaches her to read. Now, Liesel is stealing books from the mayor’s house and Nazi book burnings. Then, Liesel’s father hides a Jew in their basement. Liesel must keep the secret. Her parents are getting worried about bombings and World War II is raging around her. Liesel reads to escape the troubles around her.
