The Second Life of Abigail Walker by Frances ORowrk Dowell is about a chubby girl going through challenging times with both her family and friends. Sometimes she downright hates herself. However, she comes upon a boy, Anders, who seems nice. He is hidden from the rest of the town; he lives in a farmhouse. What Abby finds out is that his father isn’t just any grown up. He is depressed and was forever changed when his military truck blew up. He doesn’t feel safe anywhere! While helping this dad research about animals, Abby also stumbles upon a strange fox. I know, this story sounds a little on the weird side. If you get past the beginning though, I bet you’ll enjoy it. At least I did.
