This November we will be discussing The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It is 1945, and Barcelona is trying to recover from the war. An 11 year old boy, Daniel, wakes up one morning and realizes he cannot remember his mother’s face. To console him, his father, an antiquated books dealer, initiates him into the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a repository for forgotten books. He is encouraged to choose a book that will have special meaning for him. He chooses The Shadow of the Wind by Julian Carax, and sets out to find the rest of his work, but finds that someone has been systematically destroying every copy of this author’s books. An epic story of murder, magic, madness and doomed love. Pick up a copy at the front desk. New members are always welcome.
