My Rating: 4/ 5 stars*

Why am I recommending this book?:

You’ve read the Lunar Chronicles, right?  Right?!  (If not, start here).

For those of you who have read the Lunar Chronicles and are looking for the next great meeting between science fiction and fairy tales look no further.  Stitching Snow is the book for you.

Essie lives on a frigid, inhospitable planet.  She spends her time repairing (stitching) her seven droids who work in the planet’s mines.  Essie’s life seems pretty unassuming, until someone literally crash lands into it…and kidnaps her.

If you can’t guess from the title that this is a retelling of Snow White and that Essie is this retelling’s princess then I apologize for spoiling it for you.  Don’t let my spoiling the main character’s identity stop you from picking this book up though!  Stitching Snow has a great science fiction backdrop, an interesting and intelligent (she’s an engineer, people) protagonist, and adorable droids.

What’s even better is that if you like this one, there is another by the author which is just as good.

*a note on my rating system:  I go by the rates I use on goodreads.com, which are as follows:

1 star = did not like it

2 stars = it was okay

3 stars = liked it

4 stars = really liked it

5 stars = it was amazing

Anything a 3 or above is worth reading, in my opinion.  I’ve read a lot of books that I have given 3 stars to, and I don’t regret any of them.
