Prof Layton and the curious villageTeen Video Game Recommendation #2: Professor Layton & the Curious Village

Game Stats:

Console: Nintendo DS

Release Date: 2/10/2008

Rating: Everyone

Genre: Puzzle

My Rating: 5/5 stars*

Why am I recommending this game?:

You are probably looking at the release date and thinking that I’m crazy, but wait a minute.  This is a fantastic puzzle game.  If you are a fan of puzzles (brain teasers) you need to check this game out.

The game centers around the protagonist, Professor Layton, and his assistant, Luke.  Professor Layton is a bit of a detective.  He and Luke are looking into some mysterious circumstances in the curious village (you see what I did there) of St. Mystere.

In order to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding the town, Professor Layton and Luke solve an amazing amount of puzzles, both at the request of the locals and also when they happen to stumble upon them.

I can sometimes get frustrated with puzzle games, but the nice thing about Prof. Layton is that you can get hints if you are stuck on a particularly troublesome puzzle.   For the most part, however, the puzzles are fun and add to the story line.  Professor Layton is an awesome guy and Luke isn’t bad either (given his side-kicky status).

If you play through this game and find yourself looking for more puzzles to solve, I suggest checking out the rest of the titles in the series:

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box

Professor Latyon and the Unwound Future

Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy

I have played through Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call (unfortunately, for me, the final two games are on 3DS, and I only have a DS to my name) and found all of the titles enjoyable.  I hope you enjoy them too!  Happy puzzling!
