Teen Book Recommendation #7: Nimona by Noelle Stevenson

genre: graphic novel / fantasy
age group: teen
My Rating: 4 / 5 stars*
Why am I recommending this graphic novel?:
Sometimes you need a change. Sometimes there isn’t enough time for a novel. When that happens a good comic, graphic novel or manga series might just be the answer. (Be careful with the manga series though b/c they can get lengthy!)
Nimona is a great graphic novel for when you need to shift gears a bit. The artwork has a fun, quirky style to it. It also has a slightly more subdued color palette that helps set the mood of the comic. As for the story…
Nimona, the main character, is the best. She’s spunky and humorous and a great counterbalance to the grouchy self-proclaimed villain, Lord Ballister Blackheart. The two form an unlikely partnership… maybe even a friendship. Nothing is quite what it seems in this world and with these characters.
This is a quick read, not just because its a graphic novel, but also because its plot moves quickly and is so interesting! Pick this up when you need a break from those extra-wordy novels!
*a note on my rating system: I go by the rates I use on goodreads.com, which are as follows:
1 star = did not like it
2 stars = it was okay
3 stars = liked it
4 stars = really liked it
5 stars = it was amazing
Anything a 3 or above is worth reading, in my opinion. I’ve read a lot of books that I have given 3 stars to, and I don’t regret any of them.
