Teen Book Recommendation #8: The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Book Stats:
page count: 308
pub date: 11/05/2013
genre: mystery / thriller
age group: teen
My Rating: 4 / 5 stars*
Why am I recommending this novel?:
Sometimes mysteries are predictable. Sometimes the suspense isn’t so great in a thriller. Sometimes the plots are not super interesting. That is not the case with The Naturals…
This book is a fantastic mystery and thriller! There are many twists and turns throughout the novel. It will keep you guessing right up until the end…and it might even have a few mysteries still left unsolved.
Cassie might try to seem like a normal teenage girl, but she has a natural talent for reading people. She might try to keep this talent under wraps, but the FBI has gotten wind of it. They are putting together a special program for people like her – teens with natural abilities that could be used by the FBI to solve crimes.
Cassie joins her fellow naturals at a training house and from there the really mystery begins. This book moves fast and will keep you guessing the whole way through. Cassie and her fellow naturals are interest and complex characters. We don’t find out everything about them, but there are hints that more reveals will happen in later books.
This book is the first in a series, and I have it on good authority that the series only gets better! Three books are out so far with a fourth slated to be released November 1st, 2016 – plenty of time to catch up!
*a note on my rating system: I go by the rates I use on goodreads.com, which are as follows:
1 star = did not like it
2 stars = it was okay
3 stars = liked it
4 stars = really liked it
5 stars = it was amazing
Anything a 3 or above is worth reading, in my opinion. I’ve read a lot of books that I have given 3 stars to, and I don’t regret any of them.
