Teen Book Recommendation #17: Geekerella by Ashley Poston
page count: 320
pub date: 2017
genre: contemporary/romance/fairy tale retelling
age group: teen
My Rating: 4 / 5 stars*
Why am I recommending this book?: There are a lot of great fairy tale retellings to chose from. Don’t trust me? Just check out this list to see all of the different retellings that are out there.
In a sea of fairy tale retellings, Geekerella rises to the top. Why? Because Geekerella has all of the great elements of the original Cinderella: a not-so-great stepmom, two stepsisters, an odd mode of transportation, and a sweet outfit. It also has some great elements that are not normally found in Cinderella: an awesome friend, a “prince” with personality, a sci fi show I wish was real, and a convention that changes everything.
If you have ever loved a show that ended too soon, or worried about the movie remake of a beloved tale, or wanted to dress up for and/or attend a con this is the book for you! Geekerella is the Cinderella for those who subscribe to hobbies and interests that some might call geeky but others would call awesome. Check it out and while your at it try Ashley Poston’s newest book, Heart of Iron, a retelling of the tale of Anastasia set in space!
*a note on my rating system: I go by the ratings I use on goodreads.com, which are as follows:
1 star = did not like it
2 stars = it was okay
3 stars = liked it
4 stars = really liked it
5 stars = it was amazing
Anything a 3 or above is worth reading, in my opinion. I’ve read a lot of books that I have given 3 stars to, and I don’t regret any of them.
