In anticipation of the 250th birthday of the United States Declaration of Independence, the Hillsdale Free Public Library looks back at the 1976 bicentennial celebration with memorabilia and ephemera from collector Gary Weir.

Fifty years ago, the bicentennial was a big deal at the time and especially to then-teenager Gary Weir, who collected mementos from the celebrations and has kept them in a box in the attic for the ensuing decades. He is now sharing them with us!
The collection, which can be seen in the Glass Display Cases in the library’s lobby, includes books, newspapers, magazines, and various souvenirs of America’s 200th birthday.
Weir is a long-time resident of Hillsdale and was involved with the library for many years as a Friend of the Hillsdale Library and as a Board member.
